KanColle Passenger Plane in the Works

posted on by Eric Stimson
Kan Colle staff not April Fooling around after all

On April 1, the Twitter account of Kantai Collection made three big announcements: a life-size model of Zuiun, a seaplane-turned-character in the game; a national orchestra concert tour of Kan Colle's soundtrack, covering seven cities; and a plan underway with a "certain great low-cost carrier" to produce a Kan Colle-themed passenger plane.

Fans greeted these announcements with a heavy dose of skepticism, given the date, but the following day the Kan Colle staff tweeted further plans for the concert tour (it will head to Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Kyushu and "one other area"). On April 3, it reiterated plans to build the Zuiun. And finally, it tweeted further plans for the passenger plane on April 13. The jet will feature flight crew in Kan Colle uniforms and themed merchandise. More details are forthcoming soon.

Kan Colle fans understandably rejoiced, but their skepticism may be understandable; this isn't the first time an anime-themed airplane has been announced on April Fool's Day. Strike Witches fans, meanwhile, will have to keep waiting.
