Aya Hirano Wows TV Hosts With 'Cruel Angel Thesis' Performance

Voice actress Aya Hirano has joked about being an idol, but if the results of her recent performance on TV are any indication, she should strongly consider it. The Fairy Tail, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya star appeared on the program KANJANI Eight no The Mozart Ongaku Ou No.1 Ketteisen and karaoked the opening theme song "Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Hirano performed against 13-year-old singer Takuto Koguchi who performed the same song. Despite Hirano's impressive performance, Koguchi beat her with a score of 99.368 compared to her 98.997.
Hirano began acting as a child, but she received her big break when she starred in the title role of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series. She has performed theme songs for anime such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Fairy Tail, and Lucky Star, another television series for which she headlined. She returned to Japan in September from studying abroad in New York.
"Cruel Angel's Thesis" remains a top choice for karaoke in Japan, although some are tired of the song's ongoing popularity.
