Mr. Osomatsu Sextuplets Celebrate Birthday with a Stop-Motion Cake

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The sextuplet stars of Mr. Osomatsu are celebrating their birthday this year with a new stop-motion video. The 45-second ad shows a double layer cake, frosted with each character's image color, and decorated with cookies of the brothers' faces. The stop-motion video took approximately 1,000 pictures to complete.

The video was created by Tsuneo Goda's dwarf studio, the home of brown monster character Domo-kun. The studio has branched out to other stop-motion properties, creating The Curious Kitty & Friends pilot, a charity video for Fukushima, and ads for Nintendo's Yoshi's Woolly World game.

The Matsuno brother's celebrated their birthday last year with a video for a remixed version of the anime theme song "Six Same Faces ~Kon'ya wa Saikō!"

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The new show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults. The Mr. Osomatsu anime series premiered in October 2015, and Crunchyrollstreamed the series as it aired in Japan. Avex Pictures confirmed last month that the series is getting a sequel.
