Discover Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh During Real Escape Game

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! is reintroducing franchise fans to Ash and Pikachu's first fateful meeting when it opens in theaters in Japan on July 15. SCRAP, the company behind Attack on Titan, Resident Evil, Space Brothers, and Legend of Zelda Real Escape Games, is bringing the Pokémon Trainer experience to eight cities in Japan.

"Escape the Trials of Ho-Oh" is a collaboration between SCRAP's Real Escape Games and Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, the upcoming 20th Pokémon anime film. The tagline on SCRAP's official website reads, "When you solve all riddles, a legend swoops down." The attraction will take place not only inside SCRAP locations, but also in the surrounding area. Participants will team up with various Pokémon to solve riddles for a game event with a personal experience.

Players will become new Trainers and choose their starter: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. Because there will be no time limit, participants will be able to set out on Pokémon: Journeys at their own paces.

In the story, an ancient tradition says that Ho-Oh will descend on the mountain of trials and bestow the title of true Pokémon Trainer on someone who shows wisdom and bravery. As Trainers, players head toward Mount Tensei, where Ho-Oh appears. If participants succeed, they may be able to summon the legendary bird. In the upcoming film, Ash goes on a similar journey and heads to Mount Tensei to battle his rival and fulfill his long-held promise to find Ho-Oh.

The game is set up with two difficulties, a "Professor Course" and a "Trainer Course." The more difficult Professor Course features full-blown riddle-solving and is intended for adults. The easier Trainer course is for children in elementary and junior high school.

The attraction will launch in Tokyo on July 13 and will run until October 31. The game will also open in Sapporo, Sendai, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Okayama, and Fukuoka. Regular tickets will go on sale on June 17.
