Nagoya Anime Project Asks Locals for Character, Mechanical Designs

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Chukyo TV's Nagoya Anime Project streaming program opened applications for the "Nagoeight Challenge" for its related "Nagoya Anime Project the8th Secret Service" project on June 25. Former or current residents of the central Tōkai region of Japan can send in character or mechanical designs for "Nagoeight Challenge."

The slogan of Nagoya Anime Project the8th Secret Service is "Let's create anime from Nagoya (Tōkai area)!" The project is aiming to announce an anime in winter 2019.

Regardless of gender, age, or experience, former and current residents of Tōkai can submit a character design or powered suit design for the project. Applicants must submit their designs in the format of a horizontal, white, A4-size sheet with one design on each sheet. Designs must be submitted in jpeg files no bigger than two megabytes. Applicants must submit their designs by August 6 at 8:00 p.m. The project will become the copyright holder for the accepted designs, but people who submit the designs will be credited as staff of the anime project.

The anime's tentative story about protecting Japan will be set in Nagoya in 2020 when an as yet unknown threat appears.

The studio Sublimation has worked on 3DCG for anime such as Love Live! Sunshine!!, Ancien and the Magic Tablet, and Uchū Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi. The company established Nagoya Studio in December. The studio based in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture has begun work on its first full anime.

The Nagoya Anime Project program shows the new studio's anime production processes. The program debuted on Chukyo TV's free video streaming service Chuun in May.
