Land of the Lustrous Job Listing Seeks Gem Security Helpers

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The part-time job news service an Chō Baito (An Super Part-Time Job) has offered jobs cosplaying as Elizabeth, a Shinigami, or a zombie, as well as appearing as an "extra" in manga. The service's latest anime-related job listing is a collaboration with the upcoming anime of Haruko Ichikawa's Land of the Lustrous (Hōseki no Kuni) manga.

The listing is seeking security staff and backstage helpers for an advance screening event that will be held at Tokyo's TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills on September 24. The event will screen the first three episodes of the series. The anime's director Takahiko Kyōgoku and voice actors Tomoyo Kurosawa, Mikako Komatsu, Ai Kayano, and Ayane Sakura will appear at the event. The two people chosen for the special job will both act as security for the Lustrous on display and help backstage.

Applications are open to people of any experience level, age, and gender. However, applicants should like Land of the Lustrous and be people who "will not be dazzled and disoriented by high-end jewelry." Fans can apply by following an's official Twitter account, retweeting the job Tweet, and filling out an online form.

The two successful applicants will receive reimbursement for travel expenses, 50,000 yen (about US$460), and goods signed by the anime's voice cast. In addition, everyone who applies for the job will also be entered into a lottery to win goods signed by the cast. The campaign will choose one winner of the "double chance" present campaign.

The series will premiere on 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 on the AT-X channel, followed by the Tokyo MX, MBS, and BS11 channels.

The original manga's story takes place in the distant future, where a new life form called The Lustrous ("hōseki") is born. The 28 Lustrous must fight against the Lunarians ("tsukijin") who want to attack them and turn them into decorations, so each Lustrous is assigned a role such as a fighter or a medic. Although Phos hopes to fight the Lunarians, Phos is a Lustrous who is given no assignment until the Lustrous' teacher Kongō asks Phos to edit a natural history magazine.

The gem-themed anime is also inspiring real-world jewelry.
