Voice Actor Keiji Fujiwara Updates Fans on Return to Work

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Voice Actor Keiji Fujiwara posted a message on his Air Agency's Twitter account on Saturday to update fans on his return to work. He confirmed that he has not yet completely returned to work, but he is still in the process of gradually returning to voice acting.

Fujiwara celebrated his 53rd birthday on October 5, and he thanked fans for their letters, comments, and presents. He said that they are encouraging him more than fans may realize. Fujiwara added that while he is appreciative of the birthday messages, he also sends his gratitude to those fans wondering about his status and hoping he will return to work soon.

Air Agency announced in June that Fujiwara is taking steps to slowly start resuming his work. The agency stated that it will continue to take Fujiwara's condition into account while he resumes his work. The agency had announced in August 2016 that Fujiwara was taking a break "for a while" from his voice acting activities to undergo medical treatment for an unspecified illness.

Several anime works have replaced Fujiwara in the past year, including Crayon Shin-chan and Crayon Shin-chan Gaiden (as Hiroshi Nohara), Attack on Titan season 2 (Hannes), Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga (Shirō Fujimoto), and Uchū Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi (Isami Enomoto).

Fujiwara has also voiced roles in Baccano! (Ladd Russo), Hunter × Hunter (Leorio), Galaxy Angel (Volcott O'Huey), Ushio & Tora (Shigure Aotsuki), Gintama (Hattori Zenzou), Magi: The Kingdom of Magic (Hinahoho), Fullmetal Alchemist (Maes Hughes), and Durarara!!×2 Shō (Kinnosuke Kuzuhara), among many others. In addition, he plays Axel in the Kingdom Hearts franchise and Ardyn in Final Fantasy XV.
