Final Fantasy, Kemono Friends, Golden Kamuy Sculptures Planned for Sapporo Snow Festival

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The unusually large amount of snow fall in Tokyo brought out a variety of anime and game themed snowmen and offered plenty of practice before the giant snow sculptures take center stage in Sapporo. The Sapporo Snow Festival is a yearly festival and 2018 will mark its 69th year celebrating the art of snow and ice.

This year will also offer an array of sculptures. Locals have checked in on the sites to see how the art is coming along. Hatsune Miku and her sidekick bunny Yukine will be present, of course, and the duo is joined by the characters from the hit anime series Kemono Friends. Official artwork also shows that Yukine has adopted a Kemono Friends style persona to hang out with Serval and Miku.

The festival will also host sculptures of the characters from the upcoming television anime Golden Kamuy and the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. The Final Fantasy XIV sculpture is titled "Shirogane no Kessen" (The Silver Decisive Battle) and depicts the face-off between the Fell Worm Nidhogg and Azure Dragoon Estinien Wyrmblood. The sculpture will be 22 meters wide and 15 meters high.

The Sapporo Snow Festival will be held for one week starting on February 5.
