Pokémon Day Arrives With an Amazon Alexa Takeover

Celebrate your way with SnapChat filters and the latest Pokémon movie for free

Today's a big holiday for Pokémon fans around the globe. Pokémon Day, celebrating the original launch of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan on February 27, 1996, includes several fun activities and the not so subtle infiltration of the Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices.

The Pikachu Talk skill is now available on North American Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices. The feature lets users "talk" to Pikachu in place of the usual techno-personalities, although the Pokémon's responses are limited to the usual "Pika!"

What else can you do on Pokémon Day? The game and anime series' official YouTube channel has a video running down the festivities.

SnapChat users can enjoy some new Pokémon-themed filters based on the original series' starter Pokémon. Bulbasaur is available now with Charmander and Squirtle set to roll out in the near future. Looking to pick up a new Pokémon figure for your collection? The official Pokémon Center website is debuting its Pokémon Gallery Figure DX line with Charizard.

The site is also launching its Legendary Pokémon pins for pre-order. The first two are Dialga and Palkia and the company will release a new pair of pins each month until November.

Pokémon Day is also the perfect occasion to sit back and enjoy the latest Pokémon film, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! The movie is available for the first time via the Pokémon TV app and Pokémon.com/TV. The movie is available to watch for free, so now's the time to check it out.

Pokémon GO trainers will want to keep their eyes peeled for a special Pikachu available for the next 24 hours. Pikachu wearing a festive purple hat is lurking out there somewhere, and it knows the move "Present" and will give players triple the usual Stardust when caught.

Whatever Pokémon shenanigans you get up to today, use the hashtag #PokemonDay for a chance to see it featured on the event's official website. Happy Pokémon Day!
