Comic Girls Anime Staff Thanks Missouri Viewers

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Last week, Crunchyroll published the service's top non-sequel anime series in each state for the spring 2018 season based on current viewers of each show's most recent episode. Megalobox and Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online dominated the map but in one midwest state, Comic Girls was the favorite.

The series' staff took notice of its victory in Missouri with a special image thanking viewers.

The image shows a flustered Kaoruko Moeta dropping a plate of barbecue ribs against a backdrop of St. Louis.

Kaori Hanzawa's Comic Girls four-panel manga debuted as a guest series in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in 2014, and the series' regular serialization began later that year.

The manga's story centers on the 15-year-old high school student and manga creator Kaoruko Moeta, who uses the pen name Chaos. After ranking at the bottom of a reader survey, Kaoruko's editor recommends that she enter an all-female dormitory for manga creators. Kaoruko's roommates are shōjo manga creator Koyume Koizuka, teen romance manga creator Ruki Irokawa, and shōnen manga creator Tsubasa Katsuki. The girls support each other as they work to become better manga creators.

The anime adaptation marks Yoshinobu Tokumoto's (WATAMOTE, Chivalry of a Failed Knight episode director) directorial debut at Nexus. The anime premiered on April 5 and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.
