Listen to Sailor Moon's Classic Theme on Traditional Japanese Instruments

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The opening theme from the original Sailor Moon television anime is a tried and true classic. The melody was used for the original English dub, greatly broadening its recognition. Since the song first appeared 25 years ago, its been covered by fans and professionals alike, most recently on the latest tribute album by singer LiSA.

Nami Kineie is considered a master of the three-stringed shamisen and lent her amazing abilities to cover "Moonlight Densetsu" earlier this year, creating a truly unique cover.

The cover also includes Makoto Takei on the shakuhachi (bamboo flute), Eriko Kumazawa on the 20-stringed koto, Masako Watanabe on the 17-string koto, and Jun Rokei on percussion.

Kineie has previously covered Hatsune Miku's “Senbonzakura” and songs from Touken Ranbu.
