Uma Musume Anime Disc Sales Help Real Racehorses

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The characters Cygames' Uma Musume Pretty Derby project are inspired by real-world racehorses and the staff are giving back to their equine muses through charity donations. The anime's production committee announced that some of the home video sales will be donated to two charities that benefit real racehorses.

Partial profits from the home video sales for all four volumes of the Uma Musume Pretty Derby anime will go to the Japan Association for International Racing and Stud Book (JAIRS) and Horse Community's Thanks Horse project. JAIRS's mission statement outlines the association's primary objectives. JAIRS is dedicated to spreading information about horse racing domestically and abroad, studying methods to improve husbandry, as well as registration and maintaining racehorse records.

The Thanks Horse project focuses on horses after retirement. The project retrains retired racehorses to work as therapy animals or riding partners for the general public. The project has three different facilities for retired racehorses in Japan.

The Uma Musume television anime premiered on April 1, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

Cygames' Uma Musume Pretty Derby game is currently in development, with a planned release on iOS and Android in 2018. The game's concept begins with Uma Musume (Horse Girls), girls endowed with excellent running capability, and who aim to become top idols and compete in the national sports entertainment show "Twinkle Series." Players take the role of both teacher and trainer for the girls in the Nihon Uma Musume Training Center Gakuen (Japan Horse Girls Training Center Academy) and help them make their debut.
