Pop Team Epic Joins Sanrio Mascots for Unlikely Comiket Collab

Just earlier this week, I wrote about Cardcaptor Sakura teaming up with Little Twin Stars for cute merchandise and an upcoming event at Sanrio Puroland. The collaboration was nothing particularly new; Sanrio has started teaming up with a bunch of different anime series lately. Most of the collaborations are with established, popular series within the target demographic, like Fullmetal Alchemist and Yuri!!! on Ice.
Pop Team Epic, as popular as it is, would be one of the last series I'd expect to lock arms with Sanrio. The anime's aesthetic is literally how crappy it is and I wouldn't imagine Sanrio having much to do with anything regarding itself as "crap." Apparently, Sanrio's marketing decisions are nowhere near as clear cut as I thought. It's adorable mascots are hanging out with Popuko and Pipimi for some new merchandise and apparel.
The items will be sold at Takeshobo's booth at Comiket 94 next month. Items include a T-shirt of the Little Twin Stars holding Popuko back from attacking the Takeshobo building (a running gag in Pop Team Epic), Popuko cosplaying as My Melody with Kuromi and a shirt of Pipimi cosplaying as Kuromi with My Melody. Another shirt shows the girls trying to teach Pompompurin the "Eisai Harumasukoi" dance.
The official collaboration website includes an apology from Takeshobo to Sanrio for the merchandise.
