Polar Bear in Love's Seal Stars in 2 Live-Action Movie Posters

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

One polar bear's unrequited love for a seal reached new heights this week. Koromo's A Polar Bear in Love (Koisuru Shirokuma) manga and petit anime is collaborating with the live-action films Minus 21℃ (English title: 6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain) and Wind River. The visuals show the adorable seal shivering in a world of white snow.

Minus 21℃ opens in theaters in Japan on July 21 after previously premiering in the U.S. in October. The film stars Josh Hartnett as snowboarder Eric LeMarque who ends up fighting for his life after he is trapped in the midst of a huge storm in the High Sierras. The collaboration poster takes the film's Japanese tagline "No food, no equipment, an extreme eight days" but changes it to "I'm food?? No wait?? An extreme eight days!?"

Wind River stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen of the Avengers franchise. Renner is an experienced hunter and Olsen is an FBI agent. The pair team up to investigate murders on an Indian reservation in Wyoming. The tie-in visual changes the film's tagline to "Why are all the seals killed on this land..."

The A Polar Bear in Love manga revolves around a polar bear who falls in love with an earless seal, and he wants nothing else except to protect him, even though the seal constantly thinks the bear will eat him.

Koromo launched the manga on the free manga app Comico in December 2014, and began serializing it in Monthly Comic Gene in June 2015. Kadokawa published the manga's third compiled book volume on March 27. Yen Press licensed the manga in April and released the second volume in February.
