Kyoto Animation Shows Tsurune, Free! Anime Key Frames at Comiket

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Anime studio Kyoto Animation wasn't selling any merchandise at this summer's Comic Market (Comiket) 94 event, but they were holding a key animation exhibit at their booth. They revealed frames for the upcoming TV anime Tsurune, which will air in October, as well as for episode 6 of Free! Dive to the Future, which has yet to air.

Tsurune is adapted from an "archery youth story" novel. Minato played Japanese archery in middle school, but after a certain incident, he ran away from the sport. In high school, Minato meets new friends, and together as part of their school's archery club they aim to win the prefectural tournament.

The key animation at Kyoto Animation's booth is taken from the anime's second promotional video. In the animation, Minato is shown opening his eyes and nocking an arrow.

Free! Dive to the Future is the third season of the popular swimming-themed anime Free! In the new series, Haruka, who is attending college in Tokyo, meets his old friends from middle school again and reawakens his memories from those years.

The key animation shows closeups of characters such as brothers Ikuya and Natsuya Kirishima, Asahi Shiina and Nao Serizawa. According to the brochure handed out at the booth, these cuts are from the yet-to-air episode 6.

The exhibit also shows frames from the new season's opening sequence, such as this cut of Haruka striding to the pool.

Kyoto Animation also revealed at their booth that their KA Esuma Bunko website is hosting a preview of the Seiki Denki Mokuroku (“20th Century Electricity Catalog”) novel. It was recently announced that this novel will be receiving an anime adaptation.
