My Hero Academia's Denki Credited for Unleashing Lightning in Tokyo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Tokyo experienced a sudden downpour on Monday, which some are attributing to My Hero Academia's Denki Kaminari. For a sense of the scope of the storm, look at the picture below that the website tenki.jp posted. The photo shows the view from the Sunshine 60 skyscraper in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

The official Twitter account of the My Hero Academia chimed in to hint that Denki was the cause of Tokyo's sudden extreme weather. The text of the tweet reads, "Caution: Lightning!!"

In the anime, Denki's Quirk lets him shoot electricity from his body. If he discharges too many volts, however, he gets a kind of short circuit in his brain and needs to recharge for a while. Hopefully Denki took a good, long rest after Monday's storm.

Various Japanese voice actors also took to Twitter to comment on the unusual weather. For example, Shōta Aoi said, "no way, thunder," and Shiori Mikami said, "unstable weather...." Other voice actors who responded on Twitter include Ryōtarō Okiayu, Kaori Nazuka, Kenshō Ono, and Junji Majima. Commenting on the recent sunny heat wave in Japan, Kenji Nojima said he opened his umbrella for the first time in a long while, while the rain stopped right after the unfortunate Daiki Yamashita bought an umbrella.
