Setting City Hosts Girls und Panzer der Film Screening Event

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The "Girls und Panzer der Film Ōarai Hoshizora Jōei-kai" (Girls und Panzer der Film Ōarai Starry Sky Screening Event) event will screen the 2015 anime film in its setting city of Ōarai, Ibaraki on Saturday. The event will begin at around 7:30 p.m., and it will also recreate a scene from the film in which an audience watches a sensha-dō exhibition match on a screen in a certain field in Ōarai.

After the screening, the film's sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami will appear for a talk show. The franchise's Oarai Garupan Gallery shop began offering tickets on August 4 for 2,500 yen (about US$22) each, and a total of only 1,000 tickets is available. Attendees will receive an exclusive leisure sheet (small plastic tarp) to sit on during the screening.

In Iwanami's tweet about the event, he described the screening as a "chip-in party" and made an apparent reference to the film series production's deficit. He asked fans to buy merchandise at the event if possible. Merchandise available for purchase near Oarai Garupan Gallery will include a variety of items (seen below) from Curtain Damashii.

The event is being held in conjunction with Ōarai Hassaku Matsuri, an annual festival in Ōarai that will be held on August 25-26 this year. In addition, a Girls und Panzer talk show event will be held at Ibaraki Airport on August 26.

The second film in the six-part Girls und Panzer das Finale film series will open in Japan in June 2019.
