posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The official website for the documentary drama Kono Manga ga Sugoi! revealed five more cast members and the live-action manga adaptations they will star in on Wednesday.

The new cast members are:

Masahiro Higashide as Ryū Oshikōji in Motoka Murakami's Ryū -RON-

Kami Hiraiwa as a woman considering divorce in Machio Same's Machi Kinema

Aoi Morikawa as Misaki Nakahara in Kendi Oiwa's Welcome to the N.H.K.

Mirai Moriyama as Ushio Aotsuki in Kazuhiro Fujita's Ushio & Tora

Mizuki Yamamoto as Utena in Chiho Saitō's Revolutionary Girl Utena

The previously announced cast includes:

Hirofumi Arai as Maeno in Minoru Furuya's Ping Pong Club

Hiroshi Yamamoto as Izawa in Minoru Furuya's Ping Pong Club

Misuzu Kanno as Moopy in Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix

Shinya Tsukamoto as the Protagonist in Yoshiharu Tsuge's Yanagi-ya Shujin

Taishi Nakagawa as Ryo Takatsuki in Ryōji Minagawa's Project ARMS

The series will premiere in TV Tokyo's Drama 25 timeslot in October, and it will also air on TV Osaka and other affiliated networks.

Every episode of the program will feature different actors as guests. The actors will talk about manga they like and discuss their approaches to creating roles as the manga's characters. Then the show will use a "special method" for the actors to appear in the manga's panels in a live-action adaptation.

Actress Yū Aoi (live-action Tokyo Ghoul's Rize Kamishiro, live-action Rurouni Kenshin's Megumi Takani) is hosting the program. Tetsuaki Matsue (live-action Sono 'Okodawari,' Ore ni mo Kure yo!) is directing the series.

Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook reveals ranking lists of the top manga magazines and manga for male and female readers every December. The work also includes an introduction to a selection of manga, an interview and special illustrations from the top manga creator, and commentary from prominent figures in the industry.
