Gunpla Total Shipments Exceed 500 Million Units

Gundam plastic models (otherwise known as Gunpla) shipments have exceeded 500 million units, as of April this year. The first Gunpla shipped in July 1980, and there are now over 2,000 types. According to Bandai Spirits, if you were to line up the packaging of all the Gunpla that it has shipped, they would circle the globe four times. If you were to pile them all on top of each other, you would create a tower approximately 160,000 kilometers tall.
When Gunpla first launched in 1980, over a million units shipped within half a year. By 2010, shipments had exceeded 400 million. To celebrate Gunpla's upcoming 40th anniversary, Bandai Spirits has announced various projects, including a collaboration with Japan's professional baseball teams.
