Flying Witch Creator Chihiro Ishizuka Will Donate Partial Manga Sales to KyoAni

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Manga creator Chihiro Ishizuka wrote on Twitter on July 19 that partial sales from Flying Witch's eighth volume will be donated to Kyoto Animation. Ishizuka clarified that donations will be taken from both physical and digital volume sales.

The volume is slated for release in Japan on August 9 in special and regular editions. The special edition includes a drama CD. Ishizuka previously donated sales from the manga's 7th volume for disaster relief after heavy rain struck Japan last year.

Several organizations, such as Sentai Filmworks, Crunchyroll, the Animate retail chain, the city of Uji, and others are collecting donations or messages of support for the company and the victims. Sentai Filmwork's GoFundMe has raised over US$2 million for Kyoto Animation. Eleven Arts is currently holding an origami crane campaign and plans to deliver fans' folded art to the studio. The Mainichi Shimbun writes that more than a dozen companies worldwide have offered financial support.

Kyoto Animation announced on Tuesday that it has opened an account to receive monetary donations after Thursday's deadly arson at the 1st Studio building killed 34 people and injured 34 others. Staff will release more details on how to donate funds on the studio's official website.

Kyoto Animation president Hideaki Hatta stated he is considering demolishing the building and creating a public park at the spot of the fire that will include a monument.
