Gintama's 2nd Monster Strike Game Collab Releases 'Incomplete' TV Ad

posted on by Kim Morrissy
In-game collaboration launched on September 2

Gintama's second animated collaboration with the hit smartphone game Monster Strike launched on September 2. In the meantime, Monster Strike developer XFLAG has released a TV ad... although the animation doesn't appear to have been finished, as the voice-over humorously points out.

Before the ad went to air, XFLAG released three web-only videos where Gintoki, Kagura, and Shinpachi comment on the TV commercial. They follow a progression of "Wow! Good work, everybody!" to "...You guys didn't do all the checks, did you?" to "Oh my god, the ad went on air like that?!"

In typical Gintama self-aware fashion, Gintoki points out in the third video: "It's no biggie. This anime has been on air for over 10 years with an insane schedule. The production staff are used to this!"

The "incomplete" art from the TV ad are being showcased in large-scale ads inside the Ikebukuro (Tokyo) and Nanpa (Osaka) metro stations, with notes written in red by the animation director still intact. The ads will be on display at the stations until September 6.

The campaign is collecting comments on the animated ad via the official Twitter account @monst_campaign. Participants have a chance to win unique prizes like an Elizabeth or Sadaharu fan, towels, and smartphone cases. The XFLAG stores in Shibuya, Haneda, and Shinsaibashi will sell collaboration goods until September 23.

The in-game event includes appearances by Gintama' characters Princess Bubbles and Isao Kondo, Tōshirō Hijikata and Sōgo Okita, Shinsuke Takasugi and the Kiheitai, and Taizō Hasegawa.
