Fansubs.net down for upgrades

posted on 1998-11-23 00:00 EST

In an e-mail to fansubs.net mailing list recipients, Fansubs.NET volunteer Rodney L. Caston recapped why the network has been down for a little while: "Fansubs.NET has moved to a new and more expanded site in terms of services."

Among the new projects for the upgraded site are RealVideo streaming via newly-implimented RealServer technology, as well as an improved message base that utilizes the PERL language for CGI scripting. (Erik Schultz, another volunteer, noted that anything involving CGI scripting will not be operable for a few days.)

As of this writing, fansubs.net was still down.

Caston also noted that the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Episode 1 has been placed on the anonymous portion of the FTP site of Fansubs.NET as a quicktime movie. "Yeah, i know its not anime, but hey - we've waited 20 years for this :P" he added. Fansubs.net is a fansubber-run orgainization and web page that offers free directories, FAQ's, and other resources for fansubbers and the fans that benefit from them.
