News Manga switches to Ryko Distribution

In a press release today, Manga Entertainment announced a new distribution deal with Ryko Distribution Partners. RDP, formed from a merger between Palm Pictures and Rykodisc last year, will distribute currently released video tapes and DVD's from Manga Entertainment, currently being handled by PolyGram Inc. (PolyGram will continue to handle distribution in countries outside of America.)
Both Palm Pictures and Manga Entertainment are owned by Island Life (formerly Island World Communications), founded by Island Records co-founder Chris Blackwell. In addition to independant film distributor Palm Pictures and Manga, Island Life also owns the hotel chain Island Outpost, Bob Marley Music, and Blue Mountain Music.
"We expect this to be a very smooth transition," said Palm Pictures Media Relations liason Sarah Dennison in a phone conversation with ANN. The catalog of releases has not yet been made available to Palm Pictures, so it is not known if the new distribution deal will result in product being discontinued, re-released, or new product being released.
More information will be published here when it becomes available.
