News Anime on the Charts
posted on 1999-03-09 00:00 EST
Last week was a big week for anime in general, as several anime titles saw huge commercial successes.
Disney's first Studio Ghibli release, Kiki's Deliver Service, saw a reintroduction to the Blockbuster top 25 sell-through titles two weeks ago. It is not known whether this is due to an increase in sales, or a drop in sales of everything else.
ADV's release of the Tekken OAV's climbed all the way to the number 2 spot on the Billboard videotape sales charts, and number 10 on Record Town's sales charts.
In only its second run as part of the Kids WB network, the previously syndicated Pokémon TV show scored the network's highest ratings ever on Saturday, February 20, scoring a 4.6 rating/18 share in kids 2-to-11. These numbers are according to Nielsen Market Research, the company that does all of the ratings for television series.

While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.
