News ADV gets Gasaraki (unofficially)
posted on 1999-04-01 00:00 EST
ADV Films' newest aquisition, the hit WOWOW TV series Gasaraki, wasn't supposed to be announced for a while yet, but ADV's legal enforcement team allegedly accidentally let the cat out of the bag when threatening a fansub distributor carrying an unsubtitled version of the show.
The fansubber, which wished to remain anonymous, told ANN that a simple request that it be removed would have served the same purpose (without getting nasty), but it is general knowledge that the "Cease & Desist" letter is standard operating procedure for most commercial companies.
Doubt of the unofficial announcement then made its way onto rec.arts.anime.misc, where the typical anger and chaos followed.
An emergency "official" announcement is expected next week.

While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.
The second installment of the best anime currently in release. So achingly beautiful that it gives chills, it's more of what the first volume offered, which is a very, very good thing.
