News Syco Distribution to distribute biblical Tezuka series
posted on 1999-05-17 00:00 EDT
In a press release last week, anime distributor SyCoNet.com announced that they have been selected by animated religous video label CCC of America, Inc., to market the "In the Beginning" video series. The OAV series, which is the last produced by the late Osamu Tezuka, focuses on various stories from the Christian bible, in a similar way to Hanna-Barbaera's "Greatest Adventure" series.
The agreement will open up new sales channels for SyCo, who intends to focus distribution for the series on religous organizations and nearly 300,000 churches in the United States. "What is of particular interest regarding the CCC opportunity is the ability to grow our client demographics with the leading firm in this market niche," SyCo CEO Sy Picone said in the release. CCC selected SyCo because of its strong ties to the anime community.

While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.
With each passing volume it becomes less and less likely that it will ever become anything more than a loving giant robot pastiche/
