Sony Pictures To Produce Live Action American Astro Boy Films

Columbia Pictures, the film production unit of Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., has been chosen out of five contending studios to produce a live action American Astro Boy motion picture. Columbia announced Tuesday that it had acquired the film rights and plans to release the first in a series of films beginning in the summer of 2001. Tetsuwan Atom, is one of the most popular manga and anime characters in Japanese history, created by Osamu Tezuka in 1951, in 1963, Tetsuwan Atom became the first animated series to air on Japanese Television.
