On October 29th, Bandai America announced the launch of its new Gundam Wing line of action figure model kits, and it's official American Gundam website, gundamofficial.com. The kits are initially available in 30 TOYS R US stores around California, and at the toysrus.com website, but will later be available in TOYS R US locations nationwide.
Additionally, Bandai announced that the popular 49 episode Gundam Wing Television series will air on the American cable channel, Cartoon Network, starting this spring. The series will show during Cartoon Network's Toonami block which currently features Dragon Ball Z and Ronin Warriors.
"For years, Gundam has been a favorite among kids and adults in Japan and we are proud to bring this popular phenomenon to the United States," said Brian Goldner, COO of Bandai America. "We are especially excited that Cartoon Network will be airing the series next Spring in one of its more highly rated franchises."
An event to launch the Gundam Wing Model Kits in America was held Sunday, October 31st, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Toys 'R Us location in Santa Monica, California. The event drew a strong showing of fans and non-fans alike, giant standups of the Gundam Wing Zero Mobile Suit were present along with video displays showing model kit promos and a teaser for the Gundam Wing TV series.
