News Online Comics paying Homage to Anime
posted on 2000-07-21 15:48 EDT
Two very popular daily internet comic strips have recently included "inside jokes" with reference to Anime series Lain and My Neighbour Totoro.
Player vs Player (PVP) by Scott R. Kurtz includes a reference to My Neighbour Totoro in its July 7th episode which can be read at

Real Life comics by Greg Dean includes a reference to Serial Experiment Lain in its July 18th episode at http://www.reallifecomics.com/d/20000718.html
Greg Dean went on to explain the reference to his non-otaku readers in the news & comments section of his main page.
Thanks guys! If your comics interest just one person (and I'm sure they will affect more) in Anime, then you've done us all a great service! That and it was funny! ^_^

Recent Reviews
While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Pokemon Movie: Black Dub.DVD
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.

Medaka Box Episodes 1-6 Streaming
It turns out that the great NisiOisin/Gainax collaboration is just another mission-of-the-week comedy. Sad, that. And boring.
Hiiro no Kakera Episodes 1-6 Streaming
Hiiro no Kakera is by no means a terrible show...it just isn't a very good one, either. With a stilted script and a team of heroes who feel incompetent, not to mention cookie cutter characters who do little to make themselves endearing or unusual, it does nothing to elevate itself above the masses.
Bodacious Space Pirates Episodes 7-12 Streaming
Like the pirate she is, Marika is chasing space treasure this time around. At six episodes this arc is twice the size of any previous arc, but it fairly flies by. Not great, but darned fun.
Space Brothers Episodes 1-6 Streaming
As much a series about having dreams and struggling to fulfill them as it is about the wonder of space and the human urge to explore the unknown.
Random Fun
The Story of Saiunkoku is a nice change of pace from a lot of other translated shoujo with its heroine with bigger ambitions than earning her M.R.S.
