Ghibli Museum to Open

A museum exhibiting the works of Studio Ghibli is set to open in October 2001 at Inogashira Park in Mitaka City in Tokyo. The Mitaka Forst Ghibli Museum will feature exhibition halls, a screening room and gift shops. Construction of the museum , which was originally set to start by the end of July and is expected to begin shortly, is expected to cost about 5 billion yen (US$50 million). The museum is expected to draw 800,000 to 1 million visitors in it's first year of operation.

The Museum will be managed by a foundation whose members include Mitaka City and Tokuma Publishing.

Hayao Miyazaki is the creator behind Studio Ghibli which has created such anime as Princes Monoke, Kiki's Delivery Service and Nausicaä. Miyazaki, who's films are distributed in North America by Buena Vista (A subsidiary of Disney) is often referred to as the Walt Disney of Japan.
