Sony Music Video to distribute Manga Entertainment Titles in Canda

posted on
Manga Entertainment recently that their titles would now be distributed in Canada by SMV, a division of Sony Music Entertainment (Canada)Inc. Up until now Manga has had no official distributor in Canada, although contrary to what some believe, their titles have always been available from Anime retailers which purchase the videos from companies such as Canadian importer Manga Entertainment which is not affiliated in anyway with Manga Entertainment of the USA.

Excerpt from press release:

The release strategy from SMV includes a full launch of Manga
Entertainment's complete animé catalogue for this fall, along with brand new releases from both Manga and Palm Pictures available for the first time on home video and DVD. Scheduled new titles through fourth quarter 2000 include 'The Castle of Cagliostro', 'Perfect Blue', 'Rayearth Volume 1', 'X', plus for the first time on DVD 'Ghost in the Shell', ' Ninja Scroll', 'Choke', 'Devil Man' and others.

SMV's distributing might should make Manga Entertainment films more readily available in major Canadian video stores such as Movieland and Hollywood direct. And should also make the titles easier to aquire for specialty shops. The involvment of a major distributor, as opposed to small importation companies, may also have the result of lowering the Canadian street price of these titles.

SMV will also distribute titles from Palm Pictures, Manga Entertainment's parent company.
