Synch Point at AX

posted on
The English Noelle meets the Japanese Noelle in this "I'm Gonna Be An Angel!"-dominated panel.

Tenshi ni Narumon (I'm Gonna Be An Angel) dominated the Synch-Point panel. Synch-Point introduced Ms. Diana Kou as the English voice actress for Noelle. Ms. Kawakami, the Japanese voice actress for Noelle was also in attendance.

Both Kawakami and Kou fielded questions about how voice acting differs between the Japanese and English production studios. In Japan, voice actors tend to perform together and play off each other's emotions. In America, voice actors generally perform their lines alone, and then the sound director places individual lines in proper order.

Furi Kuri (FLCL), Gainax's hit OVA series, is due out before the end of the year. It's uncertain at this point if Synch-Point will use the subtitle tracks provided by Gainax on their Japanese DVD releases.

Synch-Point hinted at additional announcements tomorrow, during the Studio Pierrot panel.

Update: 7/8/01

Digital Manga is releasing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, courtesy of the Japanese licensor.

As previously announced, Digital Manga/Synch-Point held a contest to determine the English voice actress of Dejiko from DigiCharat. Five finalists were selected from well over 30 contestants at the vocal auditions held exclusively at Anime Expo. In the final audition, contestants sang the English version of “Welcome To”, with lyrics by Stephanie Sheh. The winner of the contest, whose voice will be used in a Gamers! commercial in Japan, will be announced on the Synch Point website.
