As Sen to Chihiro gets closer to breaking the Japanese Box office record set by Titanic, it has broken another mark. Already the top foreign film ever, Sen to Chihiro will be the first foreign film to break the $200 million mark, which having reached $199.2 million on Tuesday it will have done by the end of this weekend if not already.

The only other foreign films to ever break $100 million are Astérix et Obélix contre César (Asterix & Obelix vs. Caesar, France 1999, dir. by Claude Zidi feat. Gérard Depardieu and Roberto Benigni), La Vita è bella (Life is Beautiful, Italy 1997, dir. Roberto Benigni, feat. Roberto Benigni and Nicoletta Braschi), and Miyazaki's previous film, Mononoke Hime. Mononoke Hime was the previous top foreign film having earned $163.5 million worldwide, of which only $2 million was earned in the United States.

Sen to Chihiro is expected to break Titanic's Japanese box office record sometime in November.
