2001 Annie Awards results

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
No Annies for Anime, Blood loses out to Shrek.

The results for the 2001 Annie Awards have been announced. Unfortunately Blood: The Last Vampire, the only Anime nominated for an award, did not win anything. Blood was nominated for "Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature. That categry, the most important for productions (essentially the "Best Movie" category), was won by Shrek.

The award ceremony took place last night, Saturday November 10th historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, California.

The Annie Awards are often concidered to be the highest North American honor given for excellence in animation. That may be bound to change with the likely presentation of the first Oscar for animation this year.

The most prestigious individual awards given at the annual award ceremonies are the June Foray award, presented for special service to the artform; and the Winsor McCay award for a lifetime of achievement in animation. The June Forray award was presented to Leonard Maltin (Entertainment Tonight) while the Winsor McCay award was presented to Bob Givens, Pete Alvarado and Bill Justice.
