AnimEigo adds references to Macross

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Star Trek references not found in the original script found in the subtitles.

It has come to light on the AnimEigo mailing lists that AnimEigo has added subtle, comedic references to the Macross subtitles.

The references, which were suggested by Robert Woodhead while the script was being finalized, were used to flesh out certain aspects of the script, and not to add new content to the script.

For example "On a battleship on the ass-end of space," was used to translate a sentence that could also have been translated as "On a battleship in the furthest reaches of space." The ass-end of space is a term first coined in the Star Wars fan-film "Troops". The majority of the references seem to come from Star Trek.

Reaction to this has been mixed. On one side people find it amusing and have no problem with the added references because they do not change the meaning of thE original script. On the other side some people are deaply dissapointed by AnimEigo's decision to add references to the subtitled Macross script that were not in the original script.
