News Manga at the Eisner Awards

The nominees for the comic communinty's prestigous Eisner Awards have been announced. Manga related nominees include Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo (Dark Horse) for Best Archival Collection/Project, Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo (Dark Horse), Eagle, by Kaiji Kawaguchi (Viz), and Uzumaki, by Junji Ito (Viz) for Best U.S. Edition of Foreign Material, Makoto Kobayashi, "What's Michael?" in Super Manga Blast (Dark Horse) for Best Writer/Artist Humor, and Osamu Tezuka is a judge's choice for the Hall of Fame. Cage of Eden GN 2 & 3
Cage of Eden has all of the elements of a classic survival epic – monsters, diseases, an unfriendly wilderness with no perceived escape, and our own ability as humans to lie. While it can be laid on a bit thick at times, and the fanservice or treatment of the adult female characters may be objectionable to some, Yamada's story is an engrossing one.
