Tokuma Hands Daiei to Kadokawa

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Movie firm goes to Kadokawa, but Ghibli stays where it is.

According to Mainichi Shimbun, Kadokawa Publishing(Shoten) announced on 22nd of July that they had reached an agreement with Tokuma Publishing(Shoten), agreement that gives Kadokawa all management rights to Tokuma's movie firm, Daiei.

There is no mention of specifics on the deal, such as how much money, or stocks may have changed hands.

Best known for the Gamera series, Daiei's anime involvement has been limited (The only example of an Anime that they were involved with that we cold come up with was The Adventures of Kotetsu).

Studio Ghibli, which is also owned by Tokuma, is not affected in any way by the deal. It is unlikely that Tokuma would ever let Ghibli go.
