Manga Paperbacks Crush Competition (Again)

posted on by Garry Berryhill
In what is rapidly becoming the status quo, manga titles dominated the BookScan top 50 graphic novels list, which ranks titles by retail sales.

Tokyopop's usual death-grip on the rankings was shaken somewhat by a resurgence of American titles' popularity, with only six titles in the top ten, compared to ten in November. Still, they hold the top four slots with powerhouse titles like Marmalade Boy and Chobits.

Viz put twelve titles in the top 50, their strongest performers being Ceres: Celestial Legend at #6 and Di Gi Charat at #12.

Dark Horse was represented by the perennial Oh My Goddess!, the only title of theirs to make the list.

Onegai Teacher set relative newcomer Comics One into the rankings.
