posted on by Christopher Macdonald
DC Comics hiring manga editor, to license manga from Japan

It would appear that DC Comics is looking to expand into the manga market, and not in the production of their own "American Manga" but rather the acquisition of "commercially successful titles." They are looking for a Manga Editor who's job description would be as follows:

DC Comics seeks an Editor-Manga for the Wild Storm - Talent department. In conjunction with VP Business Development, develops and implements strategy for inbound reprint licensing and publishing of Manga publications. Identifies commercially successful titles for acquisition. Personally edits up to 10 monthly import editions. Oversees translation of foreign language comics and ensures story integrity. Oversees lettering and art corrections. Acts as liaison to Licensor's quality assurance and editorial groups. Coordinates company's co-development efforts creatively. Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Strong understanding of Manga properties and publishers required. Cross-cultural understanding required. Copyediting and proofreading skills required. Excellent organizational skills required. Ability to prioritize and maintain several projects at once required. Proven ability to maintain relationships with freelancers required. Ability to work under strict time constraints required. Familiarity with MAC and PC preferred. Microsoft Word proficiency required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Fluency in written and spoken Japanese preferred. At least 2 years previous editing experience required. Story editing a plus. Previous copyediting and proofreading experience required. Approximately 25% international travel required.
