AX Tokyo Attendance

5000 people attend first AX Tokyo. Second event planned.

Yuichiro Sakuta of the AX Tokyo Committee has announced attendance figures for the event. The innaugural Anime Expo Tokyo, the first "American style" anime convention in Japan attracted 4249 attendees, which includes an estimated 300 people that came from abroad and another 100 'Gaijin' residents of Japan.

In addition to regular attendees, there were about 240 members of the press (200 from Japan and 40 from overseas), and another 430 people related to guests and dealers. Total attendance for AX Tokyo was roughly 5000 people.

AX Tokyo chairperson, Hiroaki Inoue of JASFIC, has stated that the next Anime Expo Tokyo is being planned and its schedule is currently under consideration.

AX Tokyo was held at the Sunshine City Convention Center in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from January 16th to 18th. The event was organized by the Japanese Association for Science Fiction International Communication (JASFIC) in conjunction with The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA).
