Big Cartoon Exhibition Moves

Exhibition now at Anime Vegas

Back in February, we reported on The Big Cartoon Exhibition 2004, which waws to take place at the 2004 Las Vegas Comic Con. The Comic Con has however been cancelled, but the Big Cartoon Exhibition will survive by moving to the recently announced Anime Vegas convention.

The Big Cartoon Exhibition 2004, is to be a non-competitive showcase of independant animation from around the world. Recognizing that Japan is one of the leading producers of animation, including independant animation, in the world, festival director Johnie Tidwell expects a large number of the submissions to come from Japan. Additionally, Tidwell states, "There are many animators with projects from all over the world who are influenced by the anime style and tone," suggesting that even many of the non-Japanese submissions may be of particular interest to anime fans.

Speaking further on the influence of anime of international animation production, particularly at the independant level, Tidwell suggests that "animation seems to becoming a fusion of diverse styles and storytelling, less about creating a certain type of cartoon."

The Big Cartoon Exhibitors are seeking animated film submissions, no time restrictions, in all genre categories, (traditional, computer graphic, flash, stop-motion, experimental), to fill a three day schedule of festival programming.
