HIS Launches Japanese Pop Culture Tours

Destination Japan the latest entrant in Japanese pop culture tour arena

HIS International Tours has started offering its own Japanese Pop Culture Tours under the Destination Japan banner. HIS was previously the travel partner of Pop Japan Travel, which placed its tours on hiatus this year.

Earl Gertawen of HIS (formerly of Pop Japan Travel) informed ANN that, in addition to its first Destination Japan tour in September, HIS expect to operate several Japanese pop culture tours per year, although the exact number remains to be determined.

Destination Japan's first tour is the "Summer Maximum" tour, from September 17 to 23. The tour costs $1799 ($1599 until July 17) plus taxes, and tourers will visit the Tokyo Game Show. Gertawen states that "Destination Japan can offer competitive prices because we're part of a travel agency."

One of the features of the Summer Maximum tour is the "Japan Experience" segment, which allows participants to chose one of several Japan Experience tours such as "Who wants to be a Samurai," "Make your own Sushi," and "Taiko Drumming." Japan Experience is a separate tour group operated by HIS Japan, sister company of HIS International.

Destination Japan is the second new Japanese pop culture tour company to be launched in recent months, with Intermixi Japan Tours forming last month. Intermixi Japan Tours also features former staff of Pop Japan Travel.
