Penguin Girl Comedy Manga to be Adapted into Anime

posted on by Egan Loo
Tetsuya Takahashi's 4-panel gag manga about otaku girl in high school

The April issue (released on February 19) of Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine has announced that Tetsuya Takahashi's Penguin Musume (Penguin Girl) manga is being adapted into anime. The 4-panel gag manga centers on Sakura, the 14-year-old daughter of the rich Nankyoku family, and her classmates. Since "Nankyoku" happens to be Japanese for Antarctica and Sakura happens to be an Akihabara otaku (she transferred to her new school while wearing full cosplay gear), she earns the nicknames "Penguin" and "A-Girl."

The manga first ran in Weekly Shōnen Champion in a 2006 trial run, then continued in a formal run from that year until 2007. It just moved to Champion RED in its February issue under a new title, Penguin Musume Max (Penguin Girl Max).
