Anime Expo has announced that Akemi Takada, the character designer behind Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, and Patlabor, will attend the July 3-6 convention in Los Angeles. In addition to these anime, Takada also designed the characters in Creamy Mami, Fancy Lala, Gatchaman F and Gatchaman II, Magical Fairy Persia, Twilight Q, and more. Takada studied graphic design in Tama Art University before entering the anime industry through the renowned animation studio Tatsunoko Production.

Takada regularly holds art exhibitions in Tokyo and other cities in Japan. She attended Anime Expo Tokyo in 2004, but she has not appeared in a North American anime convention since California's Anime America in 1994.
