Pulitzer Winner Diaz Praises Monster Manga in Time Mag (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo

Junot Diaz, the winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for fiction with his novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, praises Naoki Urasawa's Monster manga in his Famous Authors' Guilty Pleasures piece for Time magazine this week. Diaz describes the intricate premise of the suspense manga and adds, "Urasawa is a national treasure in Japan, and if you ain't afraid of picture books, you'll see why." Diaz himself incorporated science fiction, anime, and role-playing games into his own Oscar Wao story, which centers on a 1980s New Jersey teenager obsessed with these interests.

Update: Viz Media publishes Monster in North America, and has licensed the Monster anime adaptation and Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga as well.
