For Sale: 1/2-Scale Fighter from Oshii's Sky Crawlers

Akiyama Kobo, the sculptors of the 1/2-scale (45%) model of the fictional Sanka Mk B aerial fighter featured in Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers film, is now offering more of the models for sale — at 3.9 million yen (about US$36,000) apiece. Each ship will be made to order by hand, although the outfit estimates that buyers will have to wait about two months to receive their finished models. The model measures 3.825 meters (12.55 feet) long and 3.87 meters (12.7 feet) wide. Akiyama Kobo also sells a life-size Rei Ayanami model from Neon Genesis Evangelion for 430,000 yen (US$4,000). The Sky Crawlers film itself opens in Japan on August 2.
