Lost in Translation
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The Ezaki Glico candy maker has begun a television advertising campaign that re-imagines what the Isono family (from the hit Sazae-san anime) would look like 25 years later. Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer, The Taste of Tea) plays Sazae-san's 11-year-old brother Katsuo (now 36), Rie Miyazawa (Tony Takitani) plays Sazae-san's 9-year-old sister Wakame (now 34), Eita (Nodame Cantabile, Densha Otoko) plays Sazae-san's 3-year-old son Tarao (now 28), and Shun Oguri (Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie, Gokusen) plays Sazae-san's one-year-old cousin Ikura (now 26). Each grown-up family member prefers a different kind of Almond Premio or Dear Cacao chocolate candy. Two of the television commercials have been posted online.
Machiko Hasegawa's Sazae-san manga and its anime adaptation revolve around the quintessential Japanese housewife and her extended family. The anime version has been running for 39 years with the highest ratings of any television anime series.
