2ch Forum Head Transfers Ownership to Singaporean Firm

posted on 2009-01-03 00:42 EST

2ch website founder Hiroyuki Nishimura announced that he has transfered ownership of Japan's largest online forum to a company called Packet Monster Inc. According to the forum's new domain name registration, Packet Monster is located in Singapore. The website's actual server hardware continues to be hosted in the United States as it has been for years. The forum is well-known for its large population of fans of anime, manga, games, and other forms of popular entertainment. A purportedly true 2ch story of a male otaku's attempt to date a woman inspired the Densha Otoko (Train Man) multimedia phenomenon. The sheer number of 2ch users have allowed their views — no matter how disparate — to affect anime productions and studios, such as Gurren Lagann and Gainax.
