Sky Crawlers, Eva: 1.0, More at Japan Film Fest L.A.

This month's Japan Film Festival Los Angeles 2009 will screen Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers war romance anime film and the Los Angeles premiere of Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone — the first of Hideaki Anno and Khara's four threatrical anime remakes of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television series. The Sky Crawlers will run at 8:00 on Friday. Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action film version of Yuki Urushibara's Mushi-shi supernatural fantasy manga will then hold its Los Angeles premiere on Saturday, followed by the Los Angeles premieres of Evangelion: 1.0 and Ichi, Fumihiko Sori's live-action female re-imagining of the famous blind swordmaster character Zatoichi.
The festival will screen Always: Sunset on Third Street 2, Takashi Yamazaki's live-action film version of Ryōhei Saigan's Sanchoume no Yuuhi - Yuuyake no Uta postwar nostalgia manga, on April 12 and again on April 18. Funuke, Show Some Love You Losers! will run on April 13, 15, and 18. This tragicomedy film by Daihachi Yoshida centers around an aspiring horror manga artist after her parents die and her eccentric siblings comes together for the funeral.
