Ponyo's Hayao Miyazaki, Michiyo Yasuda Interviewed

posted on

The LA Weekly newspaper interviewed Studio Ghibli co-founder and Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki on his latest film, Ponyo. Drew McWeeny, the HitFix journalist who introduced Miyazaki at the advance Ponyo screening at Comic-Con International last month, also had a one-on-one interview with the director. Animation World Magazine posted an edited transcript of both the Miyazaki press conference and the "The Marc Davis Celebration of Animation: Hayao Miyazaki" discussion panel that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted in Beverly Hills.

The Los Angeles Times newspaper interviewed Michiyo Yasuda, the color designer on Ponyo as well as on many of the films from Miyazaki and fellow Ghibli founder Isao Takahata. After a career that included Little Norse Prince, Future Boy Conan, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle, Yasuda retired upon finishing Ponyo. The KPBS public broadcasting station is streaming the behind-the-scenes videos of the making of Ponyo from the film's promoters.
